Dhankuta, August 5 Locals have been facing mounting problems as the monsoon-damaged roads have yet to be brought into operation in the rural areas of Dhankuta. The locals are facing difficulties taking their agriculture produce to the markets and bringing daily essentials to their houses. Farmers complained that seasonal vegetables were decaying in the field as they could not be taken to the markets. Prem Bahadur Rai, a local of Bhirgaun in Dhankuta Municipality said farmers could not take their agriculture products, along with milk, to the weekly hatiya as the landslide-damaged rural roads were yet to be repaired. The locals are compelled to walk to reach their destinations due to obstruction of transportation service since many days. They said that they were compelled to carry patients on their backs to the hospital. Meanwhile, Dhankuta Municipality has started opening the damaged roads as per the estimates of technicians. Sahidbhumi Rural Municipality has started opening obstructed roads using its own excavator. Chairman Manoj Rai said the road was being opened for around 90 kilometres. He said the roads were being opened in different places of Mulghat-Tribeni-Bhojpur and Guthitar-Chhintang-Akhuwatar road sections. Likewise, Bhedetar-Dandabazaar, Bhedetar-Mahabharat and Kokaha-Aahale road sections of Sangurigadi Rural Municipality have come into operation. Vice-chair Brinda Rai of Sahid Bhumi Rural Municipality said technicians have been carrying out tests along the Dandabazaar-Khuwaphok, Kolbote-Mahabharat and Laberbote-Budhimorang road sections. The newly opened rural road sections were mostly obstructed due to landslides. Vehicular movement has been completely obstructed in Chaubise, Chhathar Rural Municipalities and Pakhribas and Mahalaxmi municipalities. Disaster Management Committee Coordinator and District Coordination Committee Chief Tanka Chauhan said three persons had gone missing while 149 families were displaced due to disaster in the district.
