Kathmandu, August 5 Parliamentary State Affairs and Good Governance Committee has completed the draft of the Bill governing the process of operation, supervision and coordination of Nepal Police and Provincial police stating that to maintain peace and security in the provinces, the provincial government could ask for more police force from the central government. The bill’s proposal which was endorsed by the panel stated that the provincial government could not ask help from other neighbouring provincial governments directly. “The provincial government should ask for help from the central government, if required. The central government can deploy more police force through neighbouring provinces in the province that has asked for help,” the bill stated. The head of the provincial police will be DIG (Deputy Inspector General of Police) of the centre. The provincial government will maintain peace and security in the province under the coordination of the DIG. The bill’s proposal which is likely to be presented in the House of Representatives by the panel’s Chair Shashi Shrestha stated that the DIG could be transferred by the central government with the coordination of the respective provincial governments. The provincial police should help the chief districts officer to maintain peace and security in the respective districts, the bill’s provision states. After endorsement of the bill by the HoR, it will be forwarded to the National Assembly. The president will approve the bill after both houses endorse it.
