PANCHTHAR: The Health Office of Panchthar district has sought help from various agencies for the control of dengue which has spread in different areas of the eastern hilly district. According to Chief at Panchthar Health Office, Tej Bahadur Tumbapo, they have sought support from Social Development Ministry of Province 1, Health Ministry of the federal government, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), among other organisations, after nine cases of dengue were detected recently in the district in places including Phidim, Nangin and Ektin. The Health Office, in a press meet today, informed that a campaign has been launched to determine the number of dengue cases in the district. Earlier, it was suspected that the disease entered Panchthar from the neighbouring Tarai districts -- Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari. However, after dengue was seen in people who had not been to the Tarai districts, it has been assumed that the spread of the disease could be caused by mosquitoes local to the area. Panchthar Health Office has started initiatives to bring dengue under control in the district. Campaign has begun to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in addition to clearing the area of mosquitoes. Likewise, doctors have suggested measures to keep mosquitoes away from homes to prevent further spreading of the disease.
