BIRGUNJ: Police in Parsa reportedly arrested one of the three teenagers who carried out an acid attack on a 15-year-old girl in Birgunj Metropolitan City-5, today morning. Police identified the culprits involved in the acid attack as Shamshad Aalam (16), son of Nasruddin Miyan; Sajid Miyan Hajam, son of Manohar Miyan Hajam; and Raiful Miyan, son of Basheer Miyan, all residents of Chhapkaiya in Birgunj-2. According to Parsa District Police Office (DPO), the trio allegedly threw acid on Muskan Khatun of Chhapkaiya in Birgunj, critically injuring her, at Ganeshman Chok, at around 6:00 this morning. Subsequently, police arrested Aalam after the acid attack took place while the two others are still at large. The acid attack victim -- who suffered critical burns on her face, chest and hands -- was rushed to local Narayan Hospital from where she was referred to a hospital in Kathmandu. Police said the victim is a ninth-grader at local Tribhuvan Hanuman Secondary School. The girl was on her way to school when the attack took place. According to the victim's maternal aunt, all those involved in carrying out the acid attack were acquainted neighbours. Meanwhile, an investigation into the incident is underway and search is on for two others, said Chief of Parsa District Police Office, Superintendent of Police (SP) Somendra Rathaur. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the violent attack was carried out on the girl after she rejected the love proposal from one of the three attackers.
