2,046 diagnosed with dengue in Chitwan

Chitwan, September 17 More than two thousand people have contracted dengue in Chitwan so far. Vector control Inspector Ram KC of Chitwan District Health Office said of the 6,639 people who got their blood tested in the past two months, dengue virus was found among 2,046 persons in Chitwan. The number of dengue patients spiked in August-September. The disease has already claimed two persons in Chitwan this fiscal. KC said public awareness campaigns were being intensified along with the rise in dengue cases in the district. KC added the health office, social organisations and entrepreneurs’ unions, among others, were also organising awareness campaigns in the district. Local levels and the private sector have been working to ensure availability of blood test kits as the number of patients has been increasing day by day. Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry provided 500 dengue test kits to Bharatpur Hospital today. Chitwan CCI Chairman Sahanlal Pradhan handed over the kits to the hospital’s acting chief Dr Prakash Khatiwada. Earlier, Bharatpur metropolis had provided 1,000 kits and Rotary Club offered 500 kits to the hospital. Information Officer at Bharatpur Hospital Liladhar Poudel said more 2,500 persons had given blood samples for dengue test and 600 had tested positive. Dengue infection was found to be high in urban areas of Bharatpur. KC said wards no 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11 and 12 were hard hit by the disease. READ ALSO:
