2 girls go missing in Myagdi flood; 48 families displaced

POKHARA: Two girls went missing after a river entered a village at Beni Municipality-2 in Myagdi district on Saturday night. The missing girls have been identified as Prabina Pariyar (10) and Anushka Pariyar (6), informed spokesperson of Myagdi District Police Office, Dhurba Prasad Sharma. The Kotkhola river that was swollen after the incessant rainfall entered the settlement at Bagarphanth at around 11:15 pm, displacing the families in the village. A team of police of Mangalghat beat had reached the incident site for the rescue operation immediately after the report of flood, informed Sharma while adding that as many as Nine families had saved their lives by fleeing at night after the flood occurred. The 48 families affected by the flood have been relocated to the safe locations. Search and rescue operation was being carried out for the missing girls, added Sharma. He added the girls might have either got carried away or got buried because of the flood. District Administration Office, District Police and Red Cross are managing temporary settlements informed Sharma.
