KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs said it had directed Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, National Investigation Department and district administration offices to enforce special security plan during Dashain festivities. A press release issued by the Home Ministry said that security forces will be mobilised round the clock to maintain law and order during the festivities. According to Nepal Police, as many as 42,619 personnel were deployed throughout the country in accordance with the special security plan. Of them, 11,401 security personnel carry weapons. Nepal Police Headquarters has also issued a circular to all its units, directing them not to sanction leave of security personnel, in view of the festival and upcoming visit of the Chinese President Xi Jinping. However, security personnel will be granted maternity and mourning leaves. The ministry said concerned District Administration Offices, in association with other stakeholder agencies have stepped up market monitoring to control black-marketing, hoarding and sale and distribution of substandard goods at local levels during the festivals. They will also ensure smooth supply of essential goods during Dashain.
