Kathmandu, October 15 The Melamchi Water Supply Development Board (MWSDB) has sought a detailed work plan from Sinohydro for Melamchi Water Project. As the previous contractor, Cooperativa Muratori e Cementisti (CMC) di Ravenna, abruptly quit Melamchi project last year, the government had awarded the contract to complete the remaining works of the project to Sinohydro on September 29. “We have asked the Chinese contractor to submit its work plan within this week,” informed Rajendra Panta, information officer of MWSDB. As per the board, the move is aimed at ensuring the project is completed by the stipulated deadline of October 28, 2020. Currently, the Chinese contractor is inspecting the project site. “We expect Sinohydro to submit the work plan as soon as it completes the inspection work,” added Panta. Though almost 95 per cent of physical works of Melamchi Water Project has been completed, a few works related to headworks and tunnel finishing, diversion tunnel, lining of audit tunnel and finishing touches of the tunnel are left. The project awarded to Sinohydro is worth Rs 850.02 million. As per the agreement signed with Sinohydro, if the contractor is able to complete the project before the set deadline, the government will provide a bonus of Rs 1.27 million per day for each day before the cut-off date. However, if the contractor is unable to complete the project within the deadline, it will have to pay a fine similar to the bonus amount.
