Two varieties of rice plants not bearing grains in Far-West

DHANGADHI: Farmers in Kailali and Kanchanpur suffered a loss of around Rs 30 million as paddy plants of Garima (hybrid) and Sinduri (open pollinated) varieties failed to bear grains. According to the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Far West State, 1,200 farmers incurred the loss as paddy plants of Garima and Sinduri varieties cultivated on 349 hectares of land in both districts failed to produce grain. Earlier, an agricultural technical team led by Yagya Raj Joshi, director at the Regional Agriculture Directorate, conducted a field visit to the affected sites. Meanwhile, a meeting of the team held under the chair of Minister Binita Devi Chaudhary today decided to call on the Federal Ministry to investigate the matter and make sure seeds suppliers and its producers to compensate farmers who suffered the loss.
