Madhav Acharya won the title of the Everest Challenge Cup Golf Tournament, organised by Royal Nepal Golf Club under the sponsorship of Mount Everest Brewery, here today. The former captain of RNGC and journalist Acharya, who finished the day at two-under par 65, bagged the title on count back after he was tied with first-day leader Raj Pradhan. Acharya, with net 70 points, also bagged the best gross award.
Himalaya Shumsher JB Rana won the super senior category title while Dr Puskar Nath Panta finished second. In senior section, RNGC vice president Madhukar Yakthumbs emerged victorious on count back after he was tied with captain Machhindra Bahadur Rai at 66 points each. Uma Tiwari won the ladies section title with net 65 score and Mi Ran Kim came second with 69 points. Sunny Baral bagged the junior section title with 88 points beating Abhijit Mool.
Chuda Bahadur Bhandari, with four birdies, lifted the most birdies award, while Tashi Ghale won the longest drive award at Hole No 13. Badri Tamang and Raj Pradhan emerged the golfers nearest to the pin at Hole No 5 and 17 respectively, while Mi Ran Kim emerged victorious at lucky No 13.
None of the golfers succeeded in taking the Hole in One award. In all 89 golfers, including seven ladies and three junior, took part in the two-day event. Piyush Bahadur Amatya, president of Mount Everest Brewery, gave away the prizes to the winners of the event organised to mark New Year 2061. President of RNGC S K Singh, captain of of the club Deep Basnet and member Maj N K Rai also expressed their views on the occasion.
