Seven injured as digger driver smites protesters with excavator bucket in Baitadi

DADELDHURA: As many as seven persons sustained injuries when a digger driver smote the protestors with an excavator bucket in Dashrathchand Municipality-9 of Baitadi district, on Monday. According to witnesses, local residents who were protesting against the construction of a road on the land belonging to a Guthi were attacked by Kishor Bohora, the digger driver. The locals demonstrated against the decision to construct the road on the land. They had appealed to the authorities concerned to halt the road construction until the matter could be discussed. But the driver drove the protesters off by hitting them with the excavator bucket injuring seven persons. According to Narayan Poudel, Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) at Baitadi District Police Office (DPO), a dispute had arisen between the locals and the road construction workers which turned into a fierce clash. Of the seven injured, Gauri Joshi and Surendra Joshi, residents of Dashrathchand are receiving treatment at Kohalpur Medical College. DSP Poudel informed that five of the injured returned home after receiving treatment. Police further informed that the excavator registered under the name of Bhawani Dutta Joshi bore no number plate since it was purchased recently.
