KATHMANDU: The Nepal Sambat Nhuda National Celebration Committee 1140 has welcomed the government's announcement of a public holiday on October 30 for Kija Puja which is celebrated by the Newar community. The government's decision to address the Committee's demand for a public holiday on Kija Puja spreads a positive message of respecting and embracing cultural traditions and rituals, said Committee's Chairperson Ramesh Maharjan in a statement today. The statement has also appealed to the Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Samiti (calendar determination committee) to seek earlier solutions accordingly when there are changes in dates in the lunar calendar.
