Nepalgunj, October 30 Two years on since the last elections were held, over 700 candidates, who contested different posts in those elections, have yet to submit their election expenses detalis, in Banke and Bardiya. As per data with the District Election Office, Banke, four of the 35 candidates who contested the parliamentary elections-2017, are yet to submit election expenses. Similarly, while seven of the 68 candidates who had contested for the provincial elections haven’t submitted their poll expenses. The number of local election candidates not submitting their election expenses to date stands somewhere at 155. As many as 2,350 candidates had filed their candidacy for different positions during the local level elections in the district that comprises three constituencies and eight local bodies. In Bardiya, eight of the 21 parliamentary election candidates have yet to post their election expenses, said District Election Office Bardiya Information Officer Madan Basnet. As for the provincial and local elections, the candidates who haven’t submitted their election expenses till date stand somewhere at 12 and 543, respectively. Some 34 persons had contested elections at the local level here, while as many as 1,941 persons had contested for different posts in the provincial elections. Bardiya has two electoral constituencies and eight local bodies. Meanwhile, both the election offices haven’t revealed the names of candidates who are yet to submit their election expenses as required by the law. There is a general tendency among candidates not to disclose such expenses and many blame the political parties concerned for their failure to issue strong ruling that could force the candidates to abide by the law.
