Pokhara, November 16 Gandaki Province is all set to establish sisterly ties with the American State of Washington. Discussion on the possibility to establish such relation was held yesterday between Washington State Governor Jay Inslee and Gandaki Province Chief Minister Prithivi Subba Gurung, who is in America on a visit. “As Washington State and Gandaki Province share many similarities, we held a discussion for establishing sisterly relation. I hope the discussion will bring positive results,” said Gurung. “I proposed for such special relation thinking it’ll secure cooperation between us and the US state for development and prosperity of the province. The governor seemed positive about my proposal,” he said. The talks were held in Seattle. “Washington State has many lakes just like Gandaki Province, and besides, its official flower is also rhododendron. That’s why I see similarities between Gandaki Province and Washington,” the chief minister said, informing about his invitation to the governor to visit Gandaki Province. “The Washington State governor said he was aware of the beauty of Gandaki Province and pledged that he would come for a visit with his family next year,” said Gurung. Washington governor expressed concerns over the impact of global warming on the mountains and the Himalayan region and stressed that the leaders of the world should act unitedly in order to protect the environment. The visiting chief minister is also said to have held talks with the representatives of US-Nepal Medical Foundation. “The talk on medical field was positive,” he said. According to Gandaki Province Principal Attorney Rajendra Ghimire, who is also in the visiting team led by the chief minister, there were discussions to set up an international-level university and an oxygen plant in Gandaki Province.
