Nepalgunj, November 27 Security has been tightened to avoid untoward activities in the by-election slated for Saturday at Kohalpur Municipality in Banke. As the by-election is just around the corner for the post of ward chairman in Kohalpur Municipality-6, security was beefed in the areas. Nepal Police has established a temporary security camp for the safety and security during the by-election. Deputy Superintendent of Police Hom Bahadur Shahi at Area Police Office, Kohalpur said that security had been tightened keeping the upcoming by-election in mind. DSP Shahi said police manpower had been added to conduct the election in a fearless and conducive environment. We have deployed as many as 25 police personnel in Ward No 6 of the municipality in the first phase, he said. DSP Shahi further informed that additional force would be deployed within some days. Kohalpur Police demanded additional manpower to complete the by-election in a free and fair manner. Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been patrolling on foot and vehicles in the areas. Security personnel have been deployed in the polling booths at Ward No 6 and the voting centre at Ward No 5 round-the-clock.  DSP Shahi informed that security was managed effectively for the candidates, their houses, contact offices of political parties and the offices of the parties during elections. “I myself will be in the field overseeing security,” said DSP Shahi. He said tight security was managed in coordination with other security departments and the chief election officer’s office. All the departments are working hard to conclude the election in a peaceful and fearless manner, DSP Shahi informed. The security departments have taken the challenges after Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal boycotted the by-election. The police have adopted security policy accordingly in Kohalpur also. We have arrested many cadres of the Chand-led party in Banke and there won’t be any untoward activities that will obstruct the election, said police. The by-election is slated for Saturday after the death of then ward chairman Ram Sohan Tharu. Ram Saran Tharu from the ruling Nepal Communist Party, Shree Krishna Tharu of Nepali Congress, Shreedhar Subedi of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Shubhakar Pokhrel from Socialist Party-Nepal and Dipa Laxmi Hamal of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party have filed their candidacy to contest the by-election in Kohalpur-6. It is expected that there will be tough competition between the ruling NCP and the main opposition Nepali Congress.
