By-elections underway in Kaski; explosives go off near 3 voting stations

POKHARA: Voters have participated in the by-elections today, standing in long queues, waiting their turn to vote at the polling centres in different areas of Kaski Constituency-2 since early Saturday morning. The voting is being carried out at 82 voting centres and 32 voting stations in 11 wards of Kaski Constituency-2, stated Chief District Officer of Kaski, Ramesh Kumar KC. All the 11 wards of Kaski Constituency-2 falls in Pokhara Metropolitan City. A total of 410 officers are stationed at the election centres to ensure smooth operation of the by-poll. Five officers are stationed at each of the centres, informed assistant election officer Ram Chandra Upadhyaya. The by-poll is being carried out in Kaski-2 after the demise of late Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Adhikari in a chopper-crash in February 2019. As many as 21 candidates -- 11 from political parties and 10 independent -- are vying for in the by-polls. A total of 71,871 people are casting their votes in the Constituency with 1,220 new voters as compared to last elections. Personnel from Nepal Police, Nepal Army, and Armed Police Force have been stationed to provide security to the election centres. Explosives go off near 3 voting stations Despite security being tightened in all the voting stations and centres of the Constituency, explosives went off near three voting stations, early morning. No injuries or damages have been reported. Police have not given any statements yet regarding the explosions. The blasts occurred near Nava Prabhav Secondary School, located in central Pokhara, at 7:30 am. Likewise, similar blasts were heard near Saraswati Tika Secondary School at Pokhara-33 at 7:45 am, and near Shanti Seconday School that is located in Chhaharepani in Pokhara-16, reported the locals.
