Kathmandu, December 2 Bhutan upset Bangladesh 1-0 in the U-23 football tournament under the 13th South Asian Games here at the Dasharath Stadium today. Skipper Chehcho Gyeltshen scored the solitary goal of the match in the 65th minute. He found the back of the nets from close range following a pass from Phub Thinley. The second match between Sri Lanka and Maldives in a goalless draw. Sri Lanka played the last 10 minutes with 10 men but they were able to stop Maldives from scoring. Substitute Sundararaj Niresh was expelled for the second bookable office in the 80th minute. Niresh, who replaced MFM Aman in the 36th minute had received the first yellow four minutes after entering the pitch. Sri Lanka defeated Maldives 25- 13, 25-18, 25-8 in women’s thirdplace playoff match, while their men’s team recorded a 23-25, 25- 20, 25-16, 25-1 victory over Bangladesh in men’s section. Nepal will face India in women’s section final, while India and Pakistan will vie for men’s section title on Tuesday. Table Tennis KATHMANDU: Nepal began the table tennis campaign on a high after the men’s team registered victory in the league round match. Nepal No 1 Santoo Shrestha teamed up with Purushottam Bajracharya and Shiva Sundar Gothe to beat Sri Lanka 3-0. Nepal will face Maldives for a place in the last four. Also, India recorded identical 3-0 wins over Pakistan and Bangladesh to make it to the semi-finals. Earlier, Sri Lanka recorded a 3-0 victory over Maldives. In women’s section, India advanced to the semi-finals following their 3-0 victories over Maldives and Pakistan. Sri Lanka also recorded 3-0 victories against Nepal and Bangladesh. Nepal will now play against Bangladesh on Tuesday. Tennis LALITPUR: Both teams of Nepal advanced to the team event semi-finals of the tennis tournament. The home side defeated Bangladesh 3-0 in the men’s quarter-finals. Pranav Khanal beat Mohammad Almagir 6-0, 6-1, while Samrakshyak Bajracharya earned walkover win from Amol Roy, who pulled out in the third set after both the players had won one set each. Roy took the first set 6-2 before Bajracharya levelled the scores wining the second set 6-2. Nabin Paija and Pradeep Khadka recorded straight-set victory in doubles. Nepal will now face India, who were directly drawn in the last four. Bhutan also advanced to the semi-finals with a 3-0 victory over Maldives and will play against Pakistan for a place in the final. Pakistan made it to the last four with a 2-1 victory over Sri Lanka. In women’s section, Nepal and Sri Lanka advanced to the semifinals. Nepal beat Maldives 3-0 with Salonai Tamang and Prerana Koirala winning the singles matches. Tamang defeated Ayani Moosa Kalim 6-4, 6-0, while Koirala outplayed Jina Abdur Rasid 6-1, 6-3. Rayana Shah and Prakriti Shrestha then registered a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Rifga Yusuf Najib and Mariam Hasma Hajib in doubles match. Sri Lanka recorded a 3-0 victory over Bangladesh to make it to the semis. Kho-Kho KATHMANDU: Nepali teams advanced to the semi-finals of Kho-Kho tournament at the Nayabazaar covered hall in Kirtipur. Nepal finished behind India, while Sri Lanka and Bangladesh came third and fourth respectively in men’s section after the round robin league in both men and women section. Nepal will face Bangladesh, while India take on Sri Lanka in both sections.
