Kathmandu, May 18 :

Lawmakers from various political parties have said that they are going to raise the issue of Hotel Yak and Yeti, a five star hotel, in the parliament if the hotel management did not open the hotel immediately.

The hotel has remained closed for over five months now. Lawmakers demanded that the management of the hotel has to respect the labour and operate the hotel immediately. Despite the management having decided to open the hotel many times before, the hotel remains shut.

Pradeep Gyanwali of UML, while speaking to hotel workers, said that the parliament will strongly urge the government to take action against the management if the hotel does not come into operations.

The management should obey the decision of the tribunal taken already to restart the hotel’s operations. The ministry of labour and transport has to take initiatives to decide the matter in favour of the employees, Gyanwali demanded.

Shankar Pandey of Nepali Congress also demanded opening up of the hotel and respect the rights of employees to work.

A total of 11 lawmakers attended a press conference organised by the hotel employees union.

Kasi Poudel of the Nepali Congress also urged the hotel employees to raise their voices in the parliament to resolve the problems at the earliest.

Jagannath Khatiwada of CPN UML accused the management of exploiting the employees. Chhabi Lal Pandey, president of Independent Hotel Employees Union, urged the management to immediately bring the hotel back into operations.

Secretary of IHEU Manoj Khadka also requested political leaders to raise the issue of hotel workers in the parliament.
