Itahari, May 20 :

Goma, wife of Police Head Constable Bishwa Nath Sharma of Mahendranagar-2, Sunsari, who was killed in a Maoist attack two years ago, is having tough time making her ends meet sans any kind of financial help.

Police head constable Sharma was killed in a Maoist attack at Birtamod on January 5, 2004. Goma, 31, said: “We don’t own any land and are facing severe financial crisis.”

Goma is also worried about not being able to support the education of her two children, aged 12 and 8.

Though family members of other security personnel killed in the same Maoist attack received compensations of up to Rs 11 lakhs, Goma said she had not received a penny in compensations even after a number of visits to the concerned authorities.

“I went to the police headquarters as well, but the police personnel there, instead of showing me any sympathy, were rather hostile,” she said.

Goma though hopes the change in government will address her demands.

But Goma is not alone to suffer with the dearth of compensations. Shova, wife of police constable Makar Bahadur Rai of Sunsari, who was killed by Maoists after his abduction on October 2000 29, voices similar woes.

She too knocked on the doors of all concerned authorities, including the local police office, the District Police Office and the Police Headquarters seeking compensations, but to no avail.

“I am having tough time supporting my family,” she said, adding,”The future of my seven-year-old son, Bhupendra, worries me no ends.” She accused the government of not treating

the family members of the deceased police personnel fairly.
