Civil servants spreading awareness against chhaupadi in Bajura

Bajura, January 28 Civil servants have launched awareness campaigns against chhaupadi practice from their duty stations in Bajura. Kitu Dhami, 70, of Badimalika Municipality reached District Ayurved Health Centre in Martadi for treatment, and there he was counselled about chhaupadi for about 10 minutes after treatment. Health workers also requested Dhami to put his signature on the banner hung on the wall of the health centre against the chhau practice. Similarly, Kunta Rokaya, 60, of Gaumul Rural Municipality also reached the health centre and she was also counselled about the ill practice. Health centre Chief Dikshya Bhandari said they not only treated patients, but provided information to people about the ill-practice. “We ask people if they have chhau huts in their locality and advise them against the bad practice.” As many as 20 patients reach the heath centre for treatment on a daily basis. “We have also deployed a staffer to spread awareness against chhaupadi,” Bhandari said. Chief District Officer Ganga Prasad Neupane said they had been working to spread awareness along with demolition of the chhau huts in Bajura. He said staffers in the office asked service seekers whether they had chhau huts in their locality and informed them about the social evil. Meanwhile, Bajura local levels have also decided not to provide any service to people from the locality that had chhaupadi huts. Budhiganga Municipality Deputy Mayor Tara Khati said they were collecting data on chhau huts in the villages. “Some villagers had demolished the huts and a decision was made that villagers would get government facility if there were chhau huts in their villages,” she added. Police teams deployed from Bajura District Police Office have been demolishing chhau huts in the villages. DSP Tanka Prasad Bhattarai said they not only demolished the huts, but also spread awareness in the villages against the ill practice. READ ALSO:
