Hewitt enters French Open third round

Despite a recent ankle injury, Lleyton Hewitt is finding his footing on the French Open clay. The two-time Grand Slam champion overcame a slow start in the second round on Thursday to beat Mathieu Montcourt 7-5, 6-3, 6-3. He will next face Dominik Hrbaty, who overcame Ivo Karlovic’s 31 aces to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-7 (2), 7-5, 6-2.

No 7 Tommy Robredo, No 31 Dmitry Tursunov and unseeded Martin Vassallo Arguello won matches suspended overnight because of darkness.

Arguello beat No 21 Sebastien Grosjean 1-6, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 while Tursunov eliminated Tim Henman 6-3, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Tursunov next plays No 3 David Nalbandian.

Robredo beat Ilia Bozoljac 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. No 11 Radek Stepanek lost only 16 points on his serve and beat Davide Sanguinetti 6-3, 6-3, 6-1. No 27 Olivier Rochus eliminated Jiri Vanek 6-2, 6-0, 6-2.

In the women’s match, Ana Ivanovic beat Emilie Loit 6-1, 6-1 and next play Anastasia Myskina, the 2004 champion, who beat Melinda Czink 6-2, 6-4.

Shenay Perry beat Akiko Morigami 6-3, 6-0 and next play No 32 Gisela Dulko, who beat Yuliana Fedak 6-2, 6-4. Daniela Hantuchova rallied past Emmanuelle Gagliardi 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
