Kathmandu, June 4:

The House of Representatives today unanimously approved a proposal forwarded by MP Parasu Ram Meghi Gurung to announce Nepal as a state free of discrimination and untouchability, which was tabled today.

The proposal envisaged mobilisation of special economic programme for education, health and employment for Dalits and those under the absolute poverty line to raise their status.

The proposal also aims to include Dalits and disadvantaged groups in the process of drafting a new Constitution, scrapping all discriminatory laws and activities for bringing Dalits into the country’s mainstream to create a society with equity.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives Regulation could not be tabled today as the differences among the parties continued on the issue of slashing more powers of the King.

“If differences continue, the proposal may not be tabled even this week, and the Prime Minister has to be responsible for it,” said Narayan Man Bijukchhe, the coordinator of the HoR Regulation Drafting Committee.
