BUDGET : Think of higher education

Government had so far focussed on primary education, which is the most important part to ensure education for all.

But there should be due consideration to higher education too. The allocated budget for higher education is also uneven in its distribution.

Technical education has been receiving greater share of the budget while general education receives the least. But general education has a higher number of students that technical education.

The school of thought of giving priority to technical education needs a change. General education also plays an important role in the development of any country.

Another important part to ensure educational goals is strengthening Tribhuwan University (TU). TU holds the largest number of students and the constituent campuses of TU attract more students than affiliated campuses. The fees structure at affiliated campus is high as compared to constituent campuses which the government should think of bringing at par, which would help TU to generate some more funds.

Opening new areas of academics and adopting changes that occur around the world would help us standardise our education. It is very difficult to do internal assessment. But clearly, there prevails academic insincerity among students and teachers.

Another equally important area is working for an open university. It is high time that government visualises distance-learning methodology as an important tool to maintain quality of our educational system and start allocating some funds for making this dream come true.

Allocating large sums is not sufficient, there should be monitoring and evaluation regularly, which would help in reaching set targets.
