DHANGADHI: Physical infrastructure built encroaching upon Sukuti Nala, a rivulet, was demolised in Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City-5 of Kailali district. A bulldozer was driven to demolish the house built over Sukuti Nala by a local towards the north of the bridge in Taranagar. However, the person has claimed that he had been constructing the house keeping a distance of 19 feet from the main waterway, on the piece of land mentioned in his land registration certificate. The sub-metropolis had also demolished another house that encroached upon the rivulet, about a week ago. It started taking action after land encroachment became rampant in the area of late. Dhangadhi Sub-metropolis mayor Nrip Bahadur Wada said that locals come to resist when physical infrastructures get demolished. On the other hand, they also complain about the encroachment upon the water body. 'Nobody should present such a double character,' the mayor said. The sub-metropolis is at the risk of inundation as physical infrastructures have been built obstructing the natural flow of the water. Meanwhile, Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City has collected data relating to encroachments and has launched a drive to remove such infrastructures.
