KATHMANDU: The Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court will begin final hearing on writ petitions filed against the December 20 dissolution of the House of Representatives, starting today. The Bench will now resume hearing for and against the dissolution of the House, 13 writ petitions against which were filed following the move by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli amid all-time high tensions in the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP). The apex court on December 25 had wrapped initial hearings and designated hearing sessions from January 6. Likewise, the offices of the President, Prime Minister and Speaker of the House of Representatives were issued a show cause notice by the court on the matter. The three offices have submitted their respective letters. After hearing arguments in favour of and against the petition by plaintiffs and defendants, the court will hear the opinion of amicus curiae. All eyes are now set on how the Supreme Court will interpret the constitutional provision, which will either legitimise or delegitimise the December 20 step.
