Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Melamchi establish sisterly ties

SINDHUPALCHOWK, JANUARY 6 Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Melamchi Municipality have established sisterly relations. KMC Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya and Melamchi Municipality Mayor Dambar Aryal signed a memorandum of understanding to this effect today. KMC has established sister city relations with 12 cities both within the country and abroad. It has established such relations with Ramgram and Chandannath municipalities of Nepal and 10 cities of Japan, Belarus, Myanmar, South Korea, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and India. Melamchi Municipality has established sister city relations with Roverito Municipality of Italy. With the signing of this MoU, KMC will support Melamchi Municipality for construction of Melamchi City Park. The two municipalities have signed an agreement for this purpose as well. The park is being constructed at Melamchi Municipality on the banks of the Indrawati River. It will have a fountain, a helipad and playground for children. It is said that KMC will provide technical assistance for construction of the park if Melamchi Municipality seeks for the same. The construction of the park will start in the fiscal 2020-21 and is set to be completed in the fiscal 2021- 22. KMC will provide assistance of Rs 15 million for construction of the garden while Melamchi Municipality will bear the remaining cost. Addressing the MoU signing programme, Mayor Shakya said KMC had been establishing sister city relations with many municipalities within the country and expressed hope that it would contribute towards promotion of tourism and exchange of culture.
