KATHMANDU, JANUARY 21 The National Human Rights Commission urged the government to take effective steps to ensure justice to Ganga Maya Adhikari and protect her life. Issuing a statement today, NHRC spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel reiterated the call to implement the agreements reached in the past between the government and Adhikari. The NHRC also urged Adhikari not to choose the risky path of a hunger strike. NHRC has been regularly monitoring the state of Adhikar’s health. She has been staging strikes demanding legal action against those involved in the murder of her son Krishna Prasad Adhikari. The Bagmati provincial office of NHRC wrote to the Ministry of Health and Population and Bir Hospital to ensure proper medical care and treatment for Adhikari so that her life can be saved. Adhikari has been staging a fast-unto-death since December 21 at the Trauma Centre in Bir Hospital. Her health is deteriorating day by day, despite treatment at the emergency unit of the centre.
