Little Buddha qualify

LALITPUR: Little Buddha Academy and The Blue Moon School qualified for the second round after winning their respective group finals at the Coca Cola Inter-school Football Tournament on Friday. Little Buddha edged past Bal Kumari 1-0 on a goal from Gambhir Singh Waiwa in Group B final while The Blue Moon demolished Siddhartha Banasthali 6-0 in Group D final. The Blue Moon’s celebration, however, could be cut short as Siddhartha Banasthali has filed a protest against them accusing of including outsiders in their team. In the Group J semi-finals, Little Angels’ defeated St Xavier’s 3-0 while Shree Sati Devi Sarada School beat Manjushree Secondary School 4-2 in tie-breaker after failing to break the 2-2 deadlock in the regular 70 and 15 minutes extra time. — HNS

Mallika, Susma in final

KATHMANDU: Mallika Thapa of Angels’ School (Banke) and Susma Rai of Galaxy Public School (Kathmandu) entered the U-12 finals in the first Gyan Bahadur Khadka All Nepal Inter-school Badminton Championship on Friday. Mallika beat Laxmi Sen Thakuri of SOS Balgram and Susma defeated Aadhya Rajbhandari of Angels’ School in the semi-finals on the opening day of the tournament. Durga Thapa, Saugat Pulami, Irfan Ansari and Sahil advanced to the U-12 boys’ semi-final. Also advancing into the semi-fianls were Punam Gurung, Sunita Gurung, Binu Budha Magar and Manila Shrestha from the U-14 girls and Ratnajit Tamang, Sudeep Sedai, Vivek Shrestha and Sajan Krishna Tamrakar from the U-14 boys’ events. Organised by Nepal Badminton Association, the tournament includes Under-12 and Under-14 events in both the boys and girls’ sections. — HNS

SASJAN postpone event

KATHMANDU: South Asian Sports Journalists’ Association of Nepal (SASJAN) postponed its annual programme to mark the World Sports Journalists’ Day. SASJAN president Ishwor Man Singh, citing technical reasons, said in a statement on Friday, that they were unable to organise the programme on July 2, adding that the programme would be held in near future. — HNS
