Scribe seeks justice
BIRATNAGAR: A THT scribe, Manoj Shrestha, who was attacked by the police personnel in course of his snapping a photograph during the pro-democracy movement in Biratnagar, on Sunday filed a petition at the Morang district court demanding compensation. The petition, filed with legal assistance from the Morang Bar Association and at the initiative of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Morang, has demanded the maximum penalty to the abusers. The eastern regional police office, the district police office, the district administration office and police inspector Santosh Tamang have been made respondents in the case. — HNS
Call to dissolve trust
POKHARA: A Maoist leader on Sunday demanded that the King Mahendra Nature Conservation Trust be dissolved as it was involved in “smuggling” wildlife and medicinal herbs in the name of conservation. Addressing an interaction programme here, Kaski district committee secretary of the CPN(Maoists) Karan Gurung also accused the trust of imposing “unnecessary” taxes on people.
The interaction was organised by the Tourism Entrepreneur Society for Peace. — HNS

TANAHUN: A former rebel in the Maoists’ rehabilitation centre at Dhakaltar has started a hunger strike. Dilip Kumar Shah, Shah said he began his hunger strike as his case has not been annulled even after an amnesty was announce to Maoists. —HNS
Mudslide buries five
BAGLUNG: The death of five persons — including four of a family — in a landslide at Adhikari Chour VDC of Baglung district on Saturday, has been confirmed by Chief District Officer of Baglung, Janak Ram Regmi. Five bodies were recovered from the site while nine-year-old Phursi Poudel is still missing, he said. Earlier, seven people were reported to have been killed in the mudslide that swept away a house. Three other persons injured in the incident have been airlifted to Pokhara. The condition of two among the three is critical, Regmi said. Thirty 30 head of cattle were also killed. — HNS
Rapist RNA man held
Dharan: A soldier, Dinesh Bhattarai, of the Unified Base Camp of the Royal Nepalese Army in Paanchthar, raped his sister in Dharan on saturday. The girl is his mother’s younger sister’s daughter. She has just completed grade eight. Locals heard her screaming and rescued her. They caught Bhattarai and handed him over to the police. Bhattarai, who is being kept at the Area Police Office, Itahari, has admitted his guilt. Police inspector Raj Kumar Baidawar at the APO said Bhattarai will be charged like any civilian in a civil court. —HNS
