Kathmandu, July 19:
Speaker of the House of Representatives Subas Nembang today said parliament will remain active until elections to a Constituent Assembly are held.
He also urged the media to help take the activities of the House to the people until its dissolution.
Addressing a programme after inaugurating the Parliamentary Affairs Journalists’ Forum at Singha Durbar, the Speaker said: “The House is currently engaged in destroying the remnants of autocracy.”
Urging all concerned to hold elections to a Constituent Assembly without further delay, Nembang said the polls would be the only goal of the people’s movement. He also said that the House would stop its activities if people start disliking them. “The House would work in close collaboration with the people and as long as they want,” he added. He said the fourth estate is a bridge between the people and the parliament and as such it should play its role properly.
Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chitra Bahadur KC also urged the media to play a positive role in spreading awareness among the masses. Member of Parliament Hom Nath Dahal called on the Parliamentary Secretariat and the journalists’ forum to jointly find ways to make parliamentary activities more effective. The president of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists Bishnu Nisthuri and its former president Tara Nath Dahal urged the MPs to respect people’s desires and make all activities transparent.
