Rs 1 million looted

Kathmandu: Property worth more than Rs 1 million was stolen from two places within the last 24 hours in the capital, police said. According to police, a group of unidentified persons made away with property worth Rs 7,46,000 from the house of Rohini Gurung on Sunday at Chhakutol, Sitapaila, Kathmandu. Police said there was nobody in the house when the burglars broke in and took away cash, gold jewellery and coral stones. In another theft at Jyatha, property worth Rs 300,000 was stolen from a room in Hotel Rara early Monday. Police said cash Rs 90,000, two mobile sets, a credit card of Standerd Chartered Bank and other valuables were stolen from the room of Man Bahadur Limbu who had rented room no 301 of the hotel for the last some days. The theft occurred at around 3 am while Limbu was asleep. — HNS

Ministers summoned

KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary State Affairs Committee (SAC) on Monday called the ministers and the secretaries of the Ministries of Finance, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and General Administration and also the chairperson and secretary of the Public Service Commission to discuss the problems related to the temporary appointments and facilities given to government employees. The SAC called Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula to discuss the issue of problems in maintaining law and order in the country. The members of Parliament at the committee also discussed the process of the temporary appointments of women officers and other staffers at the Department of Women’s Development. They also discussed why they were not given permanent appointment. — HNS

Clothes shop gutted

KATHMANDU: Property worth Rs 249,500 was gutted when a clothes shop caught fire at Bouddha on Sunday evening. According to police, a fire broke out in the store room of the shop, destroying quilts, bed sheets, carpets, sewing machines and furniture. Jayaram Dhaugadha of Jorpati-3, the owner of the shop, informed the Juddha Barun Yantra (JBY) fire-fighting team. The fire was doused in an hour. — HNS
