People from all walks of life came together and donated blood to help overcome the rising need for blood, especially at a time when the demand for it is rising due to the current violence.

“In the prevailing times of intense violence, immediate and easy availability of blood is a necessity. Our motive was to help the needy,” said Shree Pradhan, president of KATH Guy’s — a group of youngsters committed to social service. “The donated blood will be deposited at the national blood bank.”

“The pre-occupation of the government with the security situation in the country has indirectly led to the strengthening of local bodies. That gives us an opportunity to work freely,” said Keshav Sthapit, mayor of Kathmandu metropolitan city (KMC) inaugurating the day-long blood donation and free dental camp held here on Saturday.

Sthapit lauded the efforts and the dynamism of young people involved in such social activities. Highlighting the plans of KMC to beautify and develop the city, he added that the success of the plans would require the support of people and groups like KATH Guy’s.

With enthusiastic participation from the donors, the blood donation camp witnessed a good turn out. “Health camps like these are an opportunity to help the people in need, in our own small ways,” said R P Rijal, a first time donor. More of such camps should be held at different places, he further added.

Pradhan, president of the club, reiterated the club’s commitment to continue with such efforts.

KATH Guy’s, which started as a FM listener’s group, is a philanthropic club. The group works with various INGOs and is also involved in promoting education. This is second such health camp organised by the club. R K Manandhar, chairman of Image Channel and Sashi Lal Shrestha, chief of Kathmandu ward-9 also spoke on the occasion.
