Directly Observed Treatment System, more commonly known as DOTS has proven to be very effective in Terhathum. In this kind of treatment, doctors directly observe the patients during their stay at hospital and even after they leave.

The number of tuberculosis patients attending the district hospital for treatment has risen significantly since DOTS started. The success of DOTS also owes to the provision that patients can stay at district hospital without having to bear charges.

Medicines are also distributed free of cost. This has been beneficial especially for sick and poor villagers.

DOTS has been implemented in all 75 districts of the nation since 2057 BS.
