Maoist killed :

DHANGADHI: A Maoist activist was killed after being hit by a passenger bus (Se 1 Kha 467) bound for Tikapur from Dhangadhi at Ramalpur of Shreepur VDC along Mahendra Highway on Saturday. Maoist Krishna Giri, 19, a permanent resident of Gokuleshwor of Baitadi district, was killed on the spot. The Maoists took away Giri’s body after post mortem, the Kailali district police office said. Traffic, which was disrupted for an hour on Mahendra Highway after the accident, resumed later. — HNS

Memory power tested :

BHADRAPUR: A programme was held here recently to test the memory power of one Biswo Prakash Khatiwada of Chandragadhi, Jhapa, in public to get his name registered in the Guinness Book of World Records for his unparalleled memory power. Khatiwada who has the capacity of recalling two hundred words and objects without seeing them has been exercising for the same for the past two years. Khatiwada is a student of third year BBS in Mechi Multiple Campus. — RSS

Maoists free one :

BARA: The Maoists on Friday released one Channu Dube of Bara’s Amritgunj-9, whom they had taken captive two weeks ago after accusing him of being involved in loot and robbery. The Maoists released Dube in the presence of locals and journalists on the condition that would not resort to such activities in future. — HNS

Assembly concludes :

URLABARI: A two-day long Koshi-Mechi assembly of Broader National Democratic Republican Front concluded here on Friday. Speakers at the programme stressed that the minorities and backward people should also be included in the election of constituent assembly. They also pointed out the need of going towards structuring federal state government on the participation of people on the basis of region, caste and language. Member of the United Nations Aboriginal Permanent Forum, Parshu Ram Tamang, said the nation’s development could not be flourished well in the central government system. Member of Interim Constitution Draft Committee Kuma Yonjon said that the State should endorse the festivals of aborigines and indigenous people as the national festival. — RSS

Bizarre child born :

KAPILVASTU: A strange child was born on Friday at Bisunpur village development committee ward number two, a VDC in the western part of the Kapilvastu district. The girl child has her eyes near the head and though normal from neck downward, there is hair on the half of head from the forehead. The third child of Ram Gopal Lohar, she looks healthy and suckles well and also passes away urine and stool well, said local Chhainar Pasi. People are thronging the house to see the child. — RSS

One lynched :

SARLAHI: Ram Naresh Mahato, 38, a resident of Thulo Musauli VDC in Sarlahi, beat Pramod Kumar Roy, 18, of the same VDC to death on Saturday for breaking into his house at 3 am, said the Sarlahi District Police Office. “Roy was critically injured when Mahato beat him up for entering into his house and died after locals took him to the Malangwa Hospital for treatment,” said Rajendra Shrestha, chief of the Crime Investigation Cell at the Sarlahi DPO. Police have held Kamdev Mahato and Mamata Mahato while four other accused are absconding, Shrestha said. — HNS

5 jailbirds freed :

TANAHUN: On the occasion of upcoming Dashain, five inmates of the Damauli Jail — Krishna Pariyar of Ghansikuwa VDC, Man Bahadur Nepali, Tilak Bahadur Thapa, Khadka Bahadur Nepali and Chhabi Lal Shahi — were released on Saturday, said jailer Damodar Sharma. At present, there are 32 inmates in the jail, though the jail can accommodate 25 prisoners only. — HNS
