‘Maoist demand’ shuts bar

By Himalayan News Service

Kathmandu, September 25 :

X-Bar Restaurant at Thamel was shut today after it reportedly failed to meet the “demand of the Maoists”.

According to a staffer, a group of 20 persons, who identified themselves as Maoists, came to the restaurant yesterday and asked the management to provide them salary and Dashain bonus of all the staffers. “They said they would distribute money to staffers.”

The management closed down the eatery realising that it was not possible to meet the Maoists’ demand.

Another staffer, seeking anonymity, said Maoists took the step after some staffers complained to Maoists that the restaurant management did not give them Dashain bonus and full salary. The closure of X-Bar will affect night life in Thamel area, since it is regarded as one of the most-preferred places to enjoy night life in the tourist hub.

However, owner of the restaurant, Stalin Sherchan, said the restaurant was closed because of some ‘internal problems’.
