Kathmandu, October 3:

A teenage girl was injured when she was hit by a bullet from an unidentified source at Ghattekule, Dillibazaar, Kathmandu, on Sunday.

According to police, a bullet pierced the back of 19-year-old Santu Rai from Bhojpur, while she was washing clothes on the terrace of a house at around 9:30 am.

Rai was immediately taken to the Kathmandu Model Hospital at Bagbazaar from where she was taken to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj. She is still undergoing treatment at the hospital and her condition is reported to be normal, police said. Rai, a tenth grade student, was staying at her relative Puja Rai’s house.

Dhak Bahadur Karki, Superintendent of Police at the Kathmandu District Police Office, Hanumandhoka, said that police is investigating the case.

The police said that one bullet was found in Santu’s body. “We didn’t find any used bullet from the spot,” the police official said. From the investigation, police found that the bullet was not fired from any pistol. “It might be a rifle bullet,” the police official added.

Family members and neighbours didn’t hear any sound of firing. “We didn’t hear any sound of firing. We came to know about the incident only after Santu cried,” Puja told the police.
