Kathmandu, October 6:

Delay on the part of the police personnel to arrive at the spot of incidents resulted in two cases of theft on Bijaya Dashami day (October 2), it has been revealed.

Police sources said they had received information from one Shankar Prasad Lohani of Mhaipi that some unidentified persons were stealing property from a house owned by Yubaraj Ghimire on October 2 morning. But there was not a single policeman at the Sorakhutte Ward Police Office to go to the theft spot to nab the culprits.

Later, it was found that furniture, cupboard and other things in the house were vandalised and valuables were stolen from there.

There were nobody in the house when the incident occurred.

“There were only a duty officer, a kitchen staff and a sentry guard at the Ward Police Office on the day. Other staff who were in the office had been sent for security arrangement at the Narayanhity Royal Palace,” a police official at the ward police office said.

“Had the police reached the spot within an hour, the thieves would have been caught. They stayed in the house for almost two hours but the police didn’t come,” Lohani said.

Also, property worth Rs 130,000 was stolen from the house owned by one Ramraja Dhakal at Nayabazaar on October 2.

Police reached the spot only the next day despite being informed on time.
