NRB donates money

Lankan rates on hold

COLOMBO: The Sri Lankan central bank left its key policy rates unchanged at its monthly review on Thursday, saying it expected past moves to contain inflationary pressures. However, analysts expect further tightening before the year is over. The bank left its overnight repurchase rate, the rate it pays other banks for short-term funds, at 9.625 per cent, and the reverse repurchase rate, the rate it charges banks, at 11.125 per cent. — AP

Industrial output up

NEW DELHI: India’s industrial output grew a brisk 9.7 per cent in August from a year ago, but the pace was slower than in July and fell short of expectations. The slowdown in

August — industrial output expanded 12.7 per cent in July — came because of a contraction in mining output and sluggish electricity generation, although manufactured output continued to post double-digit growth. — AP
