Kathmandu, October 13:

Around 150 employees of government schools from across the country today staged a sit-in in front of the Education Ministry. They were demanding job security. Members of Nepal School Employees’ Council chanted slogans demanding the government come up with new provisions for employees who have been serving for decades in government schools.

Peons and school assistants, who are paid by school management committees, have been protesting demanding better perks, salary and job security. The government yesterday formed a seven-member committee under the co-ordination of Laba Prasad Tripathee, the spokesperson of the Education Ministry, to look into the demands. Tripathee said the committee has started its work and letters have already been circulated to the ministries concerned as part of its investigation.

The committee has representatives from the Finance Ministry, Department of Education, Nepal School Employees’ Council and School Management Committees.
