Climber killed in Annapurna avalanche

Kathmandu, October 26:

Twenty-five-year-old Sirdar, Lakpa Rita Sherpa, died in an avalanche on Mt Annapurna, the mountaineering section of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation said on Thursday.

Sherpa, a resident of Khumjung-9, Solukhumbu, died on Camp II, Annapurna peak, on October 22, it said.

Sherpa was part of the CCA Japan Expedition 2006, comprising four members.

The team was permitted to climb the 8,091m peak from the southern side within 75 days beginning September 29 under the leadership of Yamada Yoshichika of Japan.
