India lose pace bowler Agarkar

Mohali, October 27:

Indian pace bowler Ajit Agarkar was on Friday ruled out of playing any further role in the ongoing limited-overs Champions Trophy after fracturing his left thumb, a team spokesman said.

Rajan Nair said India sought permission from the tournament’s technical committee to replace Agarkar with Shantakumaran Srees-anth. Agarkar played in Thursday’s Group A match against the West Indies in Ahmadabad. India needs to defeat world champions Australia on Sunday to enter the semi-finals. Defending champion the West Indies have already assured its passage to the semi-finals.

“Agarkar seems to have got injured while fielding in the match against the West Indies,” said Nair, the media manager of the Indian team.
