ANNISU-R wants seats for women in FSUs in colleges

Kathmandu, November 5:
The students’ wing of the Maoists today demanded strong action against those involved in violence against prisoners of conscience and demanded a special provision for proportionate representation of girl students in the Free Students Unions in colleges.
The national conference of women department of All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) held on November 3 and November 4 in Chitwan made the decisions.
Lekhnath Neupane, president of ANNISU-R, said that the leadership among the female students could only be possible by fighting against the existing patriarchal thoughts prevalent in society and ruling out the conservative thoughts and dependency. Amrita Thapa Magar, general secretary of All Nepal National Women Association (Revolutionary), said all the female students should understand that women have always been treated as a second class citizen since ages and the movement for social transformation should be targeted to fight against the traditional role of women in society.
The conference also endorsed that professional rights to the women working in cabins and restaurants, according to a press release issued here today.
It also demanded special provision for proportionate representation of females in Free Students Union election in colleges and demanded strong action against the culprits responsible for misbehaving and violence against the prisoners of conscience.
It also demanded hostel facility along with special scholarships to Madhesi, Dalit, Janajati, disabled people.
The conference also endorsed girl’s right to paternal property.
