Damak, December 9:

Over 100 Maoist People’s Liberation Army (PLA) personnel living in the first division sub-camp in Topgachhi of Jhapa have been suffering from diarrhoea for the past one week, Naresh, the camp secretary, said.

Respiratory diseases, fever and skin diseases are also spreading in the sub-camp. “More than 100 PLA personnel are suffering from diarrhoea. We are finding it difficult to treat them due to lack of medicines,” said Naresh, adding the government was apathetic to their plight.

“Though diarrhoea has been spreading here for the past one week, not a single health worker has visited the camp so far,” Naresh said. Meanwhile, the local camp management office under the Home Ministry informed that a letter detailing the condition in the camp has been sent to the central office.

A team from the Jhapa Public Health Office reached the camp today and spread mosquito repellents in surrounding areas of the sub-camp, Naresh said. According to him, PLA fighters in Danabari of Ilam have been suffering from different diseases due to cold. They have been compelled to stay in locals’ houses due to poor condition of the camp.
