Palpa, December 15:

Cadres of the All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary) Palpa today padlocked the main gate of District Education Office, Palpa.

The lock out programme is part of the union’s agreement with other student’s bodies to launch agitation against the Education Act Amendment Bill, said president of the ANNISU-R Raju Thapa. The education offices throughout the country will be locked up for three days from today, the ANNISU-R said.

Meanwhile, our correspondent in Dhankuta said students again padlocked the District Education Office, which had opened briefly after a 12-day lock out. ANNISU-R Dhankuta locked up the office to protest against the agreement between Ministry of Education and students made yesterday.

Earlier, ANNISU-R alleged that the seven-party alliance has broken the understanding reached with the Maoists regarding the Education Act Amendment Bill.

ANNISU-R Dhankuta president Niru Khatiwada, issuing a press release, said that the present government does not hold any authority to decide on any national level policy. The lock up is in accordance with the central level decision of the party, she said, adding that the agreement was a betrayal.

Earlier, the pro-seven party alliance students unions had padlocked the office to protest against the government’s decision to make temporary teachers permanent.

Meanwhile, a report from Pokhara said ANNISU-R activists, saying that they were not included in the dialogue held between the education minister and students’ representatives, padlocked the Kaski District Education Office and the the Western Regional Education Directorate today.

ANNISU-R activists padlocked the offices immediately after students protesting against the Education Act Amendment Bill unlocked them after 12 days, after reaching an agreement with the government.

Students of Pokhara University (PU) today disrupted traffic at Srijana Chowk demanding appointment of top posts in the university at the earliest.

The post of vice-chancellor, registrar and controller of examinations of Pokhara University are vacant for the past eight months. Educational activities in the PU Central Campus and its affiliated campuses have been affected after the students padlocked the administration wing of the PU on Wednesday.
