Kathmandu, December 16:
The All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) locked out the departments of education (DoE) and most of the district education offices (DEOs) throughout the nation since December 15. The ANNISU-R alleges that the government did not consult the organisation while making major decisions related to education.
Yubaraj Chaulagain, vice president of ANNISU-R, said the student body locked out district education offices and all the major departments of education as the overnment ‘undermined’ the ANNISU-R while making the amendment to the education act.
“The government should have discussed the matter with us as education has been the organisation’s major agenda,” said Chaulagain. The student body locked out the DEOs and DoEs immediately after the lock out was lifted after the government and the students bodies agreed on making necessary changes in the newly amended education act passed by the parliament recently. “Due to the lock-out, all the major activities have been affected,” said Mahashram Sharma, director at Department of Education.
Education Minister Professor Dr Mangal Siddhi Manandhar and the representative of the Tribhuvan University Central Struggle Committee along with the representative of Nepal Students Union, Nepal Students Union affiliated to Nepali Congress (Democratic) and All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) were present in the discussion.
