Kathmandu, January 5:

State Minister for Water Resources Gyanendra Bahadur Karki today said Nepal’s hydropower development had been limited to seminars and reports while the real scenario was far from satisfactory.

“In a century-old history of hydropower, we have so far generated only around 600 MW of electricity. This is not satisfactory at all,” he said, while addressing a seminar on hydropower development today.

He urged all concerned to do “some real work” in the field. “If we lose time now, we will achieve nothing but only lose what we have achieved so far.”

“Instead of going for more and exciting projects, we have to revive old projects and should come up with concrete results and analyse why those projects could not be implemented or be accomplished on time,” he said.

He further said that the government was committed to re-launch the old projects including Upper Karnali and Budhi Gandaki.
