Shahi wins Kailash Tea Open

Kathmandu, January 12:
Toran Shahi carded even-par 72 on the final round to win the second Kailash Tea Open Golf Tournament here at the Le Meridien Gokarna Forest Golf Resort and Spa here today.
Shahi’s even-par on the final day totalled even-par 288, one-stroke win over overnight leader Deepak Thapa Magar, who had a two-stroke lead going into the final day. Thapa Magar had a chance to force a playoff but he missed a four-foot putt at the Hole No 18. He finished the day at three-over 75 for one-over 289. Shahi received Rs 50,000 while Thapa Magar got Rs 25,000.
Defending champion Deepak Acharya, who had a round of one-under for a total of two-over 290, finished third while fellow Gokarna Club professional Pashupati Sharma (73) came fourth with a total of 10-over 298. Mani Rai, who was the leader after the first two rounds, slipped to fifth after a round of 10-over for a total of 12-over 300. Acharya, Sharma and Rai received Rs 16,000, Rs 12,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
For amateurs, the event was a qualifier for the Bangladesh Amateur Open Golf Tournament. Shiva Ram Shrestha and Rupak Acharya qualified for the January 23-27 event after they claimed the top two spots. Shrestha came first with a total of 298, while Acharya was runner-up at 301.
Veteran golfer Himalaya SJB Rana; Pradeep Kumar Shrestha, president of Nepal Golf Association; and Managing Director of Tripura Industries Nepal Pvt Ltd Raj Kumar Thart gave away prizes to the winners. Atmaram Pokhrel, Marketing Manager at Tripura Industries and Ghana Shyam Thapa, president of Nepal Professional Golfers Association, were also present on the occasion.
