Manita felicitated

KATHMANDU: The 15th Asian Games bronze medallist Manita Shahi was honoured by the Nepal Khadgi Sewa Samaj today. Shahi won the taekwondo bronze in 63kg category in Doha in December, 2006. Mahanta Thakur, Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives, handed over Rs 50,000 to Shahi, who also bagged the gold medal at the 10th South Asian Games in Sri Lanka. Taekwondo Kwon Hyouk Joung was also felicitated during the programme. — HNS

Yousuf to go to SA

KARACHI: Record-breaking batsman Mohammad Yousuf will join the Pakistan team in South Africa next week after his wife gave birth to a baby girl, the Pakistan Cricket Board said on Saturday. “Yousuf will be leaving for South Africa early next week after his wife gave birth to a baby girl on Friday and now he is out of the family problem due to complication of the situation,” the board said. Yousuf missed the squad after his wife suffered pregnancy complications. — AFP

Raul in Liverpool?

MADRID: Real Madrid captain Raul Gonzalez could move to Liverpool in the summer, according to Spanish sports daily As. The long-standing friendship between Raul and Liverpool coach Rafa Benitez could be the catalyst for the player to leave Real. Raul could be another high-profile departure from the club. Former England captain David Beckham announced that he was joining Major League Soccer club Los Angeles Galaxy and Brazil’s Ronaldo is expected to leave soon as well. — AFP
