MFC end TAC’s unbeaten run

Kathmandu, January 19:
Machhindra Football Club upset Tribhuvan Army Club 2-0 to end the armymen’s unbeaten run at the Martyrs’ Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division Football League here at the Dasharath Stadium today.
In an earlier match, Sankata Club beat Boys Union Club 1-0. The win put Machhindra Energizer in the sixth position with 26 points, while Sankata Kathmandu Mall Club remained ninth with 20 points and BUC 11th with 12 points. Despite the loss, TAC lead the standings with 47 points from 18 matches. Mahendra Police Club have 44 points from 17 matches.
The Armymen were the only unbeaten team in the league and Machhindra — who have improved a lot after hiring Nigerian coach Fuja this season — ended their unbeaten streak with superb display. The TAC, who usually used to dominate the field in the second half, were outplayed by the Machhindra’s youngsters and Nigerian players.
After a goalless first half, Machhindra took lead in the 58th minute when Sola Otegbola controlled Bikash Subba’s brilliant through pass and outpaced two defenders before firing past TAC goalkeeper Bikash Malla.
The TAC were pushing hard for the equaliser but failed to penetrate through Machhindra defence. The leaders conceded another goal in the 77th minute after Buddha Chemjong found the net on a pass from Otegbola inside the D-box. Chemjong was named the Adidas man of the match.
Earlier, Sankata registered their fifth win of the league with a 1-0 win over BUC.
Adidas Man of the Match Chetan Ghimire scored the solitary goal in the 68th minute after Ranjeet Shrestha’s attempt rebounded to play off BUC goalkeeper Deepak Dangol.
