Kathmandu, February 4:
SAARC countries have agreed to establish a South Asian University (SAU) to provide quality education to South Asian students in two years. According to the plan, postgraduate classes will be conducted in India while undergraduate classes will be conducted in all the SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries.
“The courses to be studied will reflect the characteristics of the South Asian countries,” said Professor Dr Kamal Krishna Joshi, chairman of the University Grant Commission (UGC). “The SAU syllabi will be different from that of the other universities. We have already agreed to a joint curriculum and are working on the curriculum modalities with a view to bringing in uniformity,” Professor Dr Joshi said.
A three-day technical committee meeting on the establishment of the university is going to be held in New Delhi from March 7.
